What is Helping You Get Through Hard Things Right Now? October 17, 2023
Fasting, going to the temple, meditating, Clarus, belonging to a group makes a difference, all the earthly angels who are my friends.
The joy of knowing I have a Savior who has my back.
The sweet feelings that come as I listen to General Conference.
The hope I feel knowing this is but a small moment.
Fasting for Jayne as she is suffering.
The peace beyond understanding as I listen to the promptings and feelings as I ask for help in my prayers.
How to reconcile the hope for future blessings with the need for immediate relief. How to have help today?
Finding joy in the moment - small things
My increased awareness of the Old and New Testament Prophets, their sacrifices and love for the Lord, and immense faith in our Messiah. I am learning about the character of my Savior through them, and it has made all the difference. I now have a strong conviction that the Savior is so very kind and gentle, and He will help me through circumstances of my own making or the unexpected, and it is only He I need to please.
I see and know a different Savior now. My hope is large, despite greater problems than I ever imagined.
The “At Last She Said It” and “Faith Matters” podcasts and addressing my prayers to “God” versus “heavenly father” have been helping me lately! My favorite Faith Matters podcast, in particular, was the one with Astrid Tuminez. It was a true game changer for me for understanding how she navigates the “middle way” thoughtfully and constructively. https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/faith-matters/id1307757928?i=1000611144368
Talking to my sisters, talking to my son. making sure that I laugh once a day, attending the temple as often as possible, listening to a podcast on Magnify - The Risk to Trust God by Barbara Morgan Gardner
My dogs bring comfort and joy; sitting in the temple’s celestial room
Sticking to my basic pattern of prayer, scripture study, exercise, and meditation. And then layering that with serious venting during my prayers or when I am in my car, taking walks by myself, going down the rabbit hole on topics such as the ninefold celestial hierarchy, etc. But so often, I am actually picturing my Savior right next to me—and really focusing on Him—saying His name aloud to others—picturing Him in my daily life.
Curiosity
Prayer - a conversation with Heavenly Father - picturing putting burdens at the feet of Jesus - prayer - communication with Heavenly Father through Jesus Christ - names family members who have passed and asks for their help - asking for the ability to leave it alone at 3:00 am -
It's the circumstance that causes our suffering. It is how we view it—what is our story - studying cognitive behavior therapy - the work of Byron Katie - five steps - challenge the thought, is it true, who would I be if I didn’t have that thought, what’s the turn around—the opposite - allowing your brain to go to a different thought and start the process of relief -
View through the lens that God is aware that it is happening - how do I want to show up?
Other people are not responsible for my happiness
